Jefferson Parish Community Park
Envisioning wellbeing, connection and prosperity in Jefferson Parish
Manning, APC is creating a vision for needed community amenities in a Jefferson Parish neighborhood. The project goal is to develop two parish-owned parcels situated on both sides of a major highway (the Westbank Expressway) into community space, including a farmer’s market, splash zone, Covid memorial, picnic areas, and walking trail, as the first phase of a comprehensive development. Working closely with councilmember Byron Lee, Manning has developed a vision for the park that incorporates the program aimed at promoting health, wellness, recreation, and social gathering.
The farmers market will anchor Phase 1 with fresh food options that are currently lacking in the community. Phase 1 will also include the Covid memorial, a place of quiet reflection where visitors may find the names of those lost in the Covid-19 pandemic engraved into the wall that wraps the viewing area in segments. The center of the memorial is a fountain, a symbol of the river of life with its musical hush providing a serene atmosphere.
