George Washington Carver High School, a school that had served New Orleans’ 9th Ward for 53 years, re-opened for the 2016/2017 school year after catastrophic damage dealt by Hurricane Katrina. The new school, funded by FEMA, was designed and constructed as part of the Louisiana Department of Education’s Recovery School District (RSD) master plan to bring dislocated students back from temporary modular campuses to state-of-the-art facilities.

Manning designed the school with Broadmoor, LLC as the design-builder, assisting in the fast-track delivery system. Long-term environmental sustainability was a key goal, and the design achieved LEED Silver certification. The team was presented with an Excellence Award by the Bayou Chapter of Associated Builders & Contractors.
